Statistics show that 2 out of every 3 people worldwide own a
Gmail account. Chances are that as you are reading this, you are probably among
them. However, these findings are not surprising largely due to the fact that Gmail
is owned by the internet giant company Google which also happens to boast one
of the most popular and widely used search engine going by the same parent name.
Due to its popularity, the company has managed to infiltrate
every single sector of the global arena through various products and services which
include email services (Gmail), Map services (Google Maps) Tour services
(Google earth), Cloud services (Google drive), Communications sector (Google
phones) and the list goes on and on.
It is by this omnipresent nature that it has managed to
serve all people from all walks of life cutting across all regions, nations and
even continents. From the average student to the working class adult, from the
average housewife to the high ranking government officials…All these people may
have one thing in common and that may be that they all use the services offered
by Google in one way or another.
One such service like I mentioned earlier is the Gmail. The Gmail
is an email service that is easy to set up and configure to send and receive
emails from whatever part of the world as long as one possesses a reliable
internet connection.
Although most email service providers pride themselves in offering
their users maximum security and privacy, some instances of email accounts
getting hacked have not gone unnoticed over the years and despite various
measures being taken to curb such vices, it has only led elite hackers to
develop subtle approaches to avoid detection.
In most circumstances, hackers do not announce their
presence in case of a successful break-in into accounts, instead they quietly
‘assist’ the account holder in running their accounts undetected. Through this,
they impersonate you and can do just about anything from send and receive
emails, access social network accounts, gain private and critical information
and so on and so forth.
As you read this, chances are you are probably a victim but
are completely unaware. If you are a Gmail account holder, please follow these
steps to find out if you are already hacked.
Log into your Gmail account and scroll to the bottom of the page.
At the bottom right corner, you will see a ‘LAST ACCOUNT ACTIVITY’.
Click on the 'DETAILS' link and a small window will appear with all of the
recent logins from different devices and regions. Scan through the list and if
anything looks suspicious, click on the tab ‘SIGN OUT OTHER SESSIONS’. By
doing this, you will automatically log out from all devices accessing your Gmail
account.
Immediately afterwards, change your password and allow
notification via text message in case authorization into your Gmail account is
required.
By regularly checking the ‘LAST ACCOUNT ACTIVITY’ you can
guarantee safety and privacy in regards to your Gmail account.
